Where they split
The reviews split on folding, fast charging and bass, and none of the three is settled by the pages.
Does the design travel well?
Both count the lack of a fold against portability.
Against that: Calls the swivelling cups compact for carrying.
Our readThe cups turn flat and the band does not fold, so both can be true.
Is there fast charging?
Lists no fast charging and about three and a half hours for a full charge.
Against that: Both describe quick charging, with an hour of use from a short charge.
Our readThe pages do not settle it.
How is the bass?
Says the bass needs the equaliser.
Against that: Calls the bass characteristically Sony.
Both singleEach is one reviewer's opinion.
Who it's for, who should pass
It suits a reader after light noise cancelling around ₹10,000; it does not suit one who needs a case, a fold or LDAC.
It suits you if
- You want light noise cancelling around ₹10,000 and can live without a case. All five editorial reviews praise the noise cancelling and the fit.
- You listen over Bluetooth with AAC or SBC.Three editorial reviews note nothing beyond those codecs.
Pass if
- You want a case in the box, a folding band or automatic pause on removal.Between two and four of five editorial reviews name each as missing.
- You need evidence from owners after a year or more. This reading has none beyond a marketplace's rating counts.
The verdict
The 2023 verdict is steady; whether it holds three years on is thin.
Five 2023 Indian editorial reviews agree on noise cancelling, fit and sound; no owner after a year was readable, so how it has aged is open.

The review as text
The Sony WH-CH720N is a wireless over-ear headphone with noise cancelling that went on sale in India in 2023. This reading was done on 1 November 2026. We read five Indian editorial reviews of this exact model, dated 24 April to 21 September 2023, one US news piece dated 4 June 2026, the Reliance Digital product page and Flipkart's rating page, the last two read once each on 1 November 2026. Sony India's own product page refused the request, so no maker's page is in the sample.
The buyer tier is thin. Flipkart's page gives a rating breakdown and nothing we could count as themes, and no forum thread was read. Every Indian editorial review we found is from 2023, so the question in the title, whether the launch reviews still hold, rests on one 2026 news piece, a retailer listing and one marketplace's counts.
Consensus
Across the reviews we read, the 2023 verdict is steady. All five Indian editorial reviews praise the noise cancelling, all five praise the light, comfortable fit, and all five praise the sound for the price. The 2026 news piece from SoundGuys repeats the same three points, and calls the headphones a sensible budget alternative to dearer Sony models.
We read this as a strong consensus about the headphones as they were in 2023, and a thin one about how they have aged. The editorial sample is small, it is clustered in five months of 2023, and no owner after a year of use was readable. Confidence in the 2023 verdict is strong. Confidence that nothing has changed since is thin.
On the price in rupees: Reliance Digital's page shows ₹9,990 against a list price of ₹14,990 on 1 November 2026. Three of the five editorial reviews give ₹9,990 at launch, and one gives ₹14,990, which is the list price the Reliance page shows. The Digit review, dated 21 September 2023, notes a street price of ₹8,390 to ₹8,990. On that one retailer page, the price today is the launch price.
Recurring strengths
Comfort and weight: all five Indian editorial reviews describe a light, comfortable fit, and the SoundGuys news piece does too. One review puts the weight at 192 grams, which is the maker's figure as the reviewer reports it.
Noise cancelling: all five editorial reviews call it effective for the price, and one says it compares with pricier models. This is the point where the reading is firmest.
Sound: all five editorial reviews praise the sound for the price, with balanced tuning named in two of them. The buyer tier does not add to this count: Flipkart's page shows 4,054 five-star ratings out of 6,092 ratings in total, which is the platform's tally and says nothing about which feature people liked.
Battery: three of the five editorial reviews call the battery strong. The maker's listed figure, as the Reliance page shows it, is up to 35 hours with noise cancelling on and up to 50 hours with it off.
Recurring complaints
No carrying case: four of the five editorial reviews name the missing case. It is the most repeated complaint, and it is about what is in the box, not about how the headphones work.
Codecs: three of the five say the headphones support only the SBC and AAC codecs and not LDAC.
Battery against the claim: two of the five report a figure under the maker's 35 hours with noise cancelling on. The Mobile Indian review reports about 30 hours at high volume, and the Digit review about 33 hours and 21 minutes at 60 percent volume. These are the reviewers' reported figures, and we did not test anything.
Wear detection: two of the five miss automatic pause when the headphones come off. Folding: two of the five count the lack of a fold against portability.
One reviewer, in the Digit review, calls the all-plastic build cheap-feeling. That is one individual opinion and no other source we read says it. Flipkart's page shows 318 one-star and 118 two-star ratings among its 6,092, which is a count of ratings and not a count of any complaint.
Where reviewers split
Folding. Two editorial reviews count the lack of a fold against it. One editorial review calls the swivelling cups compact for carrying. We read this as both being true: the cups turn flat, and the band does not fold.
Fast charging. The Digit review lists the absence of fast charging and a full charge of about three and a half hours. The Smartprix review and the Reliance listing both describe quick charging, with one hour of use from a short charge. We could not settle this from the pages.
Bass. The Business Today review says the bass needs the equaliser. The Man's World India review calls the bass characteristically Sony. Both are single opinions.
Then and now. Four of the five editorial reviews are from April to July 2023, at launch. The Digit review is from September 2023. The 2026 news piece is a US deal article with a US price, so it says nothing about the price in India. We found no update from the maker that changes the headphones, and that is a gap in what we could read, not proof there was none.
Who it suits
A reader who wants noise cancelling and a light fit around ₹10,000, and who minds neither the missing case nor the plastic feel. A reader who listens over Bluetooth with AAC or SBC, since three reviews note nothing beyond those codecs.
Who should pass
A reader who wants a case in the box, a folding band, automatic pause on removal or the LDAC codec, since between two and four of the five editorial reviews name each of those as missing. A reader who needs evidence from owners after a year or more, because this reading has none beyond a marketplace's rating counts.
