Who it's for, who should pass
For battery and speed, with no weight on the AI. Pass for a settled Recall, for games, or for old Intel-only programs.

The review as text
We read how the Surface Laptop (7th Edition) with the Snapdragon X Elite chip, one of the first Copilot+ laptops, went on sale on 18 June 2024 against what Microsoft promised, and what has arrived since. The sample is 4 editorial launch reviews dated 25 June to 5 July 2024 (PCWorld, TechRadar, Windows Central and Tom's Guide), 5 Microsoft pages dated 20 May 2024 to 20 October 2026, 4 news reports dated 12 July 2024 to 20 February 2026, and 1 Flipkart search page read on 20 October 2026.
The buyer and owner tier is thin. The Flipkart page shows a price and no rating for this laptop, and no owner thread could be read. No editorial review we could read looks at this laptop after Recall arrived. Prices below are for the 15-inch model with 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage, the one configuration the Flipkart page lists.
Consensus
Across the 4 editorial reviews we read, the agreement is narrow and clear. All 4 report that Recall, the feature Microsoft led with, was not on the laptop at launch. All 4 praise battery life, and all 4 praise the speed of the Snapdragon X Elite chip. The rest of the Copilot+ set divides them: 3 of the 4 (PCWorld, Windows Central and Tom's Guide) fault the launch or its features, and TechRadar is warmer.
Microsoft's own dated posts tell the second half. On 20 May 2024 the company said Recall would be in preview from 18 June 2024. On 13 June 2024 it moved Recall to Windows Insiders first. It then gave October, and on 31 October 2024 gave December. Recall reached Insiders on Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs on 22 November 2024, and Microsoft released it to Copilot+ PCs as a preview on 25 April 2025, about ten months after the first date. Tom's Hardware, reporting the release, notes that Microsoft made it opt-in and labels it a preview. On 20 February 2026 Windows Latest reports that Microsoft's marketing again lists Recall among the features to look for in an AI PC, and that Recall had been missing from Windows release notes.
We read this as follows: the smaller features shipped on time and the flagship came late, as a preview. Confidence is strong for the launch state, which 4 reviews and Microsoft agree on. It is thin for how this laptop has fared since, because no owner source and no later editorial review of it could be read.
Recurring strengths
Battery life is praised in 4 of 4 editorial reviews. Microsoft claims up to 20 hours of video playback on the 13.8-inch model and 22 hours on the 15-inch. PCWorld says the claim held, with the battery falling by no more than a tenth over several hours of light use. TechRadar measured 10 hours 10 minutes in its movie test and 15 hours 44 minutes in its web surfing test.
Speed is praised in 4 of 4. Tom's Guide reports a Geekbench 6 multi-core score of 14,426, level with the 14,432 it lists for the MacBook Air M3, and Windows Central reports 14,557.
One reviewer, Windows Central, calls Windows Studio Effects, the camera and microphone filters, the most useful AI feature shipping at launch. That is one reviewer's opinion.
Recurring complaints
Recall was missing at launch, in 4 of 4 editorial reviews. PCWorld says it was delayed indefinitely over security and privacy concerns. Tom's Guide says it was held back for more testing. Windows Central says it was due later in 2024. TechRadar could not try it, and describes the original design as keeping its database in plain text. Microsoft's 13 June 2024 update adds protections, including decryption only after Windows Hello sign-in. We do not judge whether Recall is safe, and no source we read counts how many owners have used it.
The launch or its feature set is faulted in 3 of 4. Windows Central calls the set underwhelming, Tom's Guide calls most of it gimmicks, and PCWorld calls the Copilot+ launch a public relations failure. TechRadar reports that the Copilot chat answers were well sourced.
Two reviewers say the Copilot tools did less than shown. TechRadar reports that the Copilot key did not work when it wrote, and PCWorld reports that the Copilot app lacked abilities its earlier previews had. That is 2 of 4.
Gaming is weak in 2 of 4. PCWorld and Tom's Guide both say so. Tom's Guide reports about 21 frames a second in Civilization VI.
Where reviewers split
On the Copilot+ set, 3 editorial reviews fault it and TechRadar describes the Copilot chat as well thought out and tried Cocreator and Image Creator, noting that Image Creator starts with 50 credits.
On apps, Windows Central, PCWorld and TechRadar say most software runs well under Microsoft's emulation layer, while Tom's Guide calls emulation far from ideal. Windows Central adds that emulated apps use more power.
On Recall, Microsoft's 20 May 2024 post promised a preview from 18 June 2024, and none of the 4 editorial reviews found it. Both are true: Microsoft changed the plan on 13 June 2024.
On price, FoneArena reports the launch price of the 15-inch 16 GB and 256 GB model in India as Rs 1,42,999 on 12 July 2024. The Flipkart page read on 20 October 2026 lists it at Rs 1,29,990, with Rs 1,42,999 struck through and a note that 5 are left. That is Rs 13,009 below the launch figure, on one seller's page on one day. Microsoft's India Surface Laptop page, read the same day, lists the 8th Edition and not the 7th.
Who it suits
You want long battery life and a quick chip in a Windows laptop and care little for AI features. All 4 editorial reviews praise both, and 3 of 4 fault the Copilot+ set.
You work in a browser, Office and mainstream apps. Windows Central, PCWorld and TechRadar say most software runs well.
You are curious about Recall and happy to treat it as a preview. Microsoft released it as one on 25 April 2025, and it is opt-in.
Who should pass
You want a reviewed, settled Recall. No editorial review we could read looks at it on this laptop, and Microsoft still labels it a preview.
You play games. PCWorld and Tom's Guide both say the laptop is weak at them.
You depend on an older program built only for Intel or AMD chips. Tom's Guide calls emulation far from ideal.
